When I went to the Hallo Academy in Amsterdam, we had an assignment from the "move your world" organization to promote the 8 millennium goals. http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/ (some of the goals are: fight poverty and hunger, fight aids, education for all, safe drinking water for everyone and etc.) These goals are suppose to be reached in 2015 and the UN and 189 countries agreed to achieve it. But so far, there has been no progress.
We had a great solution to this problem and we presented it to the Move your World org. They really liked our concept and had decided to make it a real campaign. So for the past 9 months we have been planning and working on this campaign with them. The idea that Floor, Jordi, Kelly and I, presented to them is a concept/solution that creates an awareness to promote the 8 millennium goals. We wanted to make it the people's campaign so it can only exist if the public and everyone participates.
The concept is DONATE YOUR SPACE. And by space we mean a space on your shirt, a space on your table, a space in your home, a space on your body, a space in your email and etc. We focus on space because everyone has spaces that they can spare and dedicate to something good. To make donating your spaces easier, we designed a caution tape to create the donation of that space.
You can order the tapes for free on our website. http://www.donateyourspace.nl
(sorry it's in Dutch, I fought for it to be in English but they want to focus on Dutch people first.)
What people can do to participate is to order the tape online and use it to donate their own space, take a picture of it and upload it on our website. You can also put the tape on your bag or in your house and spread the word to your friends and family about the campaign.
We realize that the spaces will not give food to the hungry kids in Africa or find a cure for AIDS, but we hope that sooo many people will participate in this campaign that it will wake up the government and push them to start doing something the 8 millennium goals!!! In the end the photos that people upload will become a signature and given to the mayor of Amsterdam.
Yesterday was the beginning of the DONATE YOUR SPACE campaign. We were very excited to finally launch the campaign. We thought of a guerrilla action or a publicity stunt to let people know that DONATE YOUR SPACE campaign has started!!!!! The idea is: 8 models donate their bodies to a greater good. We hired the 8 models (each dedicated to the 8 goals) and dressed them up with ONLY TAPE.. and each one took off their coats and normal clothes in the middle of central station in Amsterdam. They posed for 10 minutes, did a catwalk and at the end they posed altogether for the photographer and press. They also handed out tapes to people passing by asking them if they want to donate a space on their jacket or their bags.
Start of the campaign, the models take off their clothes.
Models pose for 10 minutes. (i taped and styled her costume)
Each model carry a prop that they donated a space on.
Even their shoes are taped!!!
nice dress eh? i taped her the dress too.
group photo!!
asking people to donate their space
we even asked the police to donate their space on the scooter!
Check out the launch video and commercials that are gonna be shown on mtv and tmf amsterdam.
or you can go to http://www.donateyourspace.hyves.nl/
It was a lot of fun to watch people's reaction but everyone was very open to it and asked what it was about. The men passing by loved the women models. When they took off their clothes they were screaming "YEA YEA!!" and when the male models took off their clothes, they told them to keep it on. ahhahahah
In the end it was very successful launch. A lot of press came, newspapers, TV news and radio.
The next day we got into the front page of the newspaper!!!! We were in three different newspapers spits, metro and de telegraaf. We are super proud of ourselves and all the hardwork paid off!!!
The Donate your Space campaign will go on until June so there will lots more work. The next event is a party join together with Bed x Eclectic party (a well-known party in Amsterdam)
And we are hoping in the future that it will go WORLDWIDE!! so u're the first to hear about it if it does happen.
Sorry for the long post, I tried to make it shorter. There's just so much to say about it and i've been super stoked about it all day and wanted to share it with you guys..
So thanks for reading through the whole thing.. ehheheh
DONATE YOUR SPACE!!!!
